The warning letter to the Vatican by the Sovereigntist Front ahead of Aoun’s visit

In a letter to the Holy See, the Sovereigntist Front for Lebanon has denounced on behalf of all free Lebanese, "the collaborative behavior of the Lebanese head of state". The Front declares that it will continue its efforts to regain the country's sovereignty , the restoration of its state institutions and the neutrality advocated by Bkerké.

The Sovereigntist Front for Lebanon held an extraordinary meeting at the Sodeco headquarters on Wednesday March 23, to denounce the attempts of the President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, who aimed to whitewash the image of Hezbollah and the Iranian axis during his visit to the Vatican. The Front emphasized that it had foreseen the damaging consequences of the approach by Michel Aoun, a Hezbollah-ally. A few days before President Aoun’s departure for the Vatican on Thursday, March 17, the Front had sent a delegation to meet with the Apostolic Nuncio in Harissa. The delegation handed the Nuncio an anticipatory letter addressed to Pope Francis.

The letter exposes the dramatic situation facing the Lebanese people today. Moreover, it presents a list of sequences of events that, since 1990, have led the militia loyal to the Islamic Republic of Iran to circumvent the Lebanese constitution and law and to gobble up and subjugate all the institutions of the state.

For example, the Front exposed to the Holy See the way the Iranian Hezbollah militia is carrying out cultural and economic transformations in the country to bring about geographic and demographic change. The presentation of the facts sheds light on this ongoing Machiavellian project and uncovers the militia’s collaborators who have infiltrated the state institutions up to the highest offices.

The Front’s aim was to anticipate the disgrace that could arise during the visit of the President of the Republic to the Vatican. In addition to this detailed letter, the Sovereigntist Front delegation had the opportunity to speak for more than a hour and a half with the Apostolic Nuncio Mgr. Joseph Spiteri who expressed his deepest sympathy and promised to transfer the message to His Holiness Pope Francis.

Advocating a “Free Region”

During its meeting, the Front discussed the extent and dangerousness of today’s situation, in all its cultural, demographic, economic, educational and geographical dimensions, and also raised the importance of the project of a “Free Region”. Such a free region would be devoid of arms and protected from threats and intimidations by Hezbollah, whose power and leverage are spiraling out of control. Faced with the Iranian militia’s totalitarian ideology, it is urgent to establish a “Free Region” which will ensure a minimum of normal and decent life and to stop the bleeding caused by the disproportionate emigration of the youth. This solution is the only one capable of countering the totalitarian project of the Iranian militia and its Lebanese collaborators, while avoiding a civil war.

The Front’s meeting

Before reading its final statement to the press, the president of the Change Movement, Elie Mahfoud, underlined the coincidence between the visit of President Michel Aoun and that of Syriac Maronite Patriarch Bechara Raï to Egypt, which took place at the same time. While the patriarch was talking to Egyptian President al-Sisi and the Sheikh of al-Azhar about the importance of neutrality and the illegality of militia weapons, the president was trying to cover up all traces.

According to Charles Jabbour, head of communication at the Lebanese Forces party, Hezbollah is seeking to reproduce a legal cover similar to the one of the Syrian occupier.

In the end of the day, the Lebanese and the world were left with an extremely unusual impression. Indeed, Patriarch Raï served as the legitimate representative of the Lebanese Republic, while President Michel Aoun functioned as spokesman for the Iranian militia of Hezbollah.

The Sovereigntist Front’s press statement

The press statement published at the end of the Sodeco meeting was read by Member of Parliament Eddy Abillama, in the presence of representatives of the Front’s member political parties, revolutionary sovereigntist groups, and distinguished personalities, such as General Achraf Riffi and MP Fouad Makhzoumi who participated through their delegates.

Eddy Abillama first presented the anticipatory nature of the Front’s letter handed over to the Apostolic Nuncio and which reached the Vatican at a crucial moment. “The state of surprise and shock of the Lebanese at the statements of their president before the Head of the Church was great,” the statement read. “As the Lebanese people are troubled by the rationing of their most basic needs, as emigration disperses their families, and as famine looms, they expected to see their president asking for aid and support. How big was their surprise when they learned that the president was only covering up for the militia that robbed them and continues to despoil them, and that for a militia that is classified as a terrorist organization, convicted by international tribunals, and summoned for the judicial investigation in the case of the explosion of the port of Beirut”.

“But the Vatican, is aware of the machinations which aim to push the Lebanese towards exodus. The inappropriate remarks of the president will therefore not have any of its desired effect. The Sovereigntist Front, with all its components, will continue to counter with all its power the various attempts to deconstruct Lebanon. Our support for Bkerké’s initiative of neutrality, aims precisely to thwart the plans of President Michel Aoun who seeks to lead Lebanon towards the east and to disconnect it from its natural environment and its historical and cultural links with the West,” the press statement concluded.

The Sovereigntist Front was formed on September 29, 2021. It brings together some 20 sovereigntist organizations from civil society, distinguished personalities, and political parties such as the Lebanese Forces, the National Liberal Party, the Universal Syriac Union Party and the Guardians of the Cedars. The purpose of this Front is to openly denounce the disruptive role and stranglehold of Hezbollah on Lebanon, its state, and institutions, and to expose its role as the armed wing of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
