BETH ZALIN: Urhoy Artistic Society celebrates 28th anniversary with Syriac Song Festival
BETH ZALIN (QAMISHLI), North and East Syria – On the occasion of the twenty-eighth anniversary of its founding, the Urhoy Artistic Society of the Syriac Orthodox Milli (National) Council organized the Syriac Song Festival this Sunday at the Mar Gabriel Hall in Beth Zalin. The festival was opened in the presence of Maurice Amsih, Archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Jazeera and Euphrates, members of the Syriac National Council and the church, in addition to a large number of Syriacs from Zalin and surroundings. The festival included the folkloric theatre, dance and song performances.
In statements to Suroyo TV – an affiliate of SyriacPress – which covered the festival’s happenings, the Society’s supervisor Khamri Hanna and the Society’s chairman Simon Shamoun, said that the Syriac Song festival is held annually for one or two days, adding that this year’s theatrical and music performances were a message of love and peace from Zalin and the Gozarto (Jazeera) Region to the city of Tadmor (Palmyra) in the Syrian Badia desert because of the Syriac history and heritage the ancient city carries with it. They emphasized the importance of the city of Tadmor for the Syriac people which symbolizes the depth of its roots in Syria and the wider region. Tadmor and its Syriac Queen Zenobia are the pride of the Syriac people. Tadmor was a symbol of strength and Syriac civilization.
The two officials of the Urhoy Artistic Society concluded by expressing their deepest wishes for achieving peace and security in Syria.
