Suspect in murder case of Armenian journalist Hrant Dink arrested in Kyrgyzstan and transferred to Turkey

ANKARA – The Turkish Directorate-General for Security has announced that a suspect wanted in the case of the assassinated (2007) Armenian journalist and chief-editor of Agos newspaper, Hrant Dink, has been transferred from Kyrgyzstan to Turkey, reports Syriac newspaper Gazete Sabro.

The Directorate-General for Security issued a statement stating that the man “… who is suspected of having hidden the gun used in the assassination of Hrant Dink, having lent money to the perpetrator of the murder and had his cell phone used as a means of communication in the assassination, was caught in Kyrgyzstan and has been transferred to Turkey.” In Turkey, police authorities have arrested the suspect.

The statement from the police department further stated: “When it was determined that the person in question was hiding in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, after the investigative work of the joint taskforce of the Intelligence Service, the Counter-Terrorism Department and the Interpol-Europol Department, the Turkish Embassy in Kyrgyzstan and the Interior Affairs attaché were immediately informed. A request was submitted with the Ministry of Interior of Kyrgyzstan to take the person in custody for transfer to our country.”

The man was detained on February 26, 2022 by the police of Kyrgyzstan in coordination with the Directorate-General for Security, the Turkish embassy in Kyrgyzstan and the Interior Affairs attaché.
