SYRIA: Democratic Union Party official Saleh Muslim extends congratulations to Syriac people on Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On the advent of the 6772th Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year, or Akitu, member of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Union Party (Partiya Yekîtiya Demokrat, PYD) Saleh Muslim offered his congratulations to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

In a statement to Suroyo FM, Muslim said that, “Akitu is a holiday for all the peoples of Mesopotamia, like Nowruz and other holidays. Akitu was inherited to the Syriacs by the Sumerians and Akkadians.”

Muslim declared that all the peoples of the Middle East celebrate Akitu which dates back 6772 years.

“Akitu is very precious to our hearts,” he added, indicating that such holidays are celebrated by all peoples of the region.

On Akitu, Muslim congratulated all peoples of North and East Syria, especially Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans).

“We hope that we can preserve our privacy, unity, and freedom, for coexistence among Mesopotamia’s peoples who have existed in the region for thousands of years,” he concluded.
