Bethnahrin National Council congratulates Syriac people on Akitu

BETH NAHRIN — On the advent of Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year 6772, or Akitu, the Presidency of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) issued a statement congratulated the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people around the world.

The statement said that Akitu heralds the coming of spring and the renewal of nature, which is the source of culture in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).

“The Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people played a leading role in human history, developing one of the world’s most advanced ancient cultures. Beth Nahrin became a center of economic prosperity and scientific and technological progress.

They establish the struggle of the Syriac people. The rich civilization that the Syriac people developed must motivate Syriac national unity. Defending the Syriac people is something implanted in our souls, the roots of which have been growing in Beth Nahrin for thousands of years. We must express our identity and existence and commemorate our martyrs of the Sayfo Genocide and massacres in Hakkari and Simele.”

The statement stressed that the MUB struggle, with the aim of protecting the values and principles of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, prompted the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) comrades to offer dozens of martyrs for the national cause.

Since the beginning of the struggle, the MUB has stood against all forms of usurpation of the historical and cultural rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people. It also affirms, in all international forums, the issue of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) existence and defends the rights and identity of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

The MUB statement emphasized that Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) land, history, culture, and festivals, including the Akitu, together constitute the value of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) existence and identity, without any distinction between the names or denominations of the Syriac people.
