Beth Nahrain Patriotic Union issues a statement on Akitu 6772

BETH NAHRIN — The Beth Nahrain Patriotic Union Party (Huyodo d-Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) issued a statement on the occasion of the 6772nd Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year, Akitu.

The party indicated that it “celebrates today, this national and patriotic memory of Beth Nahrain and its first inhabitants in Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, Assyria, and all the states.”

The statement continued:

“It is worth remembering the exploits of our great ancestors, who created history and civilizations extending back 7,000 years, who preceded almost all the inhabitants of the earth in inventions, as they divided the day and night into parts, invented the calendar of seasons and months and their names, and they commemorated certain days of celebration throughout the year, including the Akitu feasts, which used to start on March 21 of each year and end on April 1.”

On this occasion, the MUB called for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, “to unite the ranks and the word so that no one can imagine that whoever calls for the end of our people and their presence on this land can uproot them.”

“The situation requires belief in the national and patriotic cause,” the statement continued. “There are many examples from history and the present in the field of steadfastness and success.”

The party pledged to remain committed to the goal of self-determination for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and to obtain all the administrative, cultural, and political rights they deserve.

The statement called on the Iraqi parliament and the political blocs within it to build a truly democratic federal Iraq.
