Syriac Union Party stresses importance and necessity of reaching political solution in Syria

ZALIN, Syria — On the occasion of Akitu, the Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year, the Syriac Union Party (SUP) stressed the importance and necessity of reaching a political solution in Syria to end the years of war which have caused the emigration and displacement of millions, including the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, and establish a democratic system for all Syrians.

The Akitu festival is one of the most ancient continuously celebrated holidays commemorated since the ancient Akkadians, Assyrians, and Babylonian ancestors. Today, the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people around the world carry on this tradition.

On this occasion, the Syriac Union Party (SUP) extended its warmest congratulations and blessings to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and wished them, and the other peoples in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) peace and security in the coming year:

“On this national occasion for our people, the Assyrian Syriac New Year 6772, we stress the importance and necessity of reaching a political solution in Syria that ends the years of war that caused the emigration and displacement of millions, including our Syriac Assyrian people; a political solution resulting in democratic change in the country that ends tyranny and terrorism and every chauvinistic thought, and paves the way for a pluralistic state that recognizes all national and religious components through a new constitution, including the political, cultural and social rights of the Assyrian people.

Based on the national and patriotic goals of our party, we consider that national unity among the parties of our people is the important step that will unite our efforts to work more effectively towards the cause of our people. It also comes in the context of working to unify the political forces in Syria with regard to the political vision for the future of Syria and to work jointly in all the paths that require radical change in them to reach a democratic, pluralistic, decentralized state.”

The party indicated in its statement that today it is taking an important step with the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) in the context of consensus on national and patriotic issues and joint work to serve the issues of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in North and East Syria in particular and Syria in general.
