Institutions of Bethnahrin National Council in the Netherlands celebrated Akitu
HENGELO, Netherlands — The Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people all over the world celebrated Akitu 6772, the Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year, on 1 April. Institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) in the Netherlands celebrated this feast in Hengelo.
The event started with a speech delivered by Suroyo TV official Mushe Beth Shabo Bahdo. Yusuf Buyukkahraman, a member of MUB, then delivered a speech on the history and meaning of Akitu.
Several poems were recited by poet Sabri Saado and the celebratory event continued with folkloric songs and dances.
Traditional food for the event was prepared by members of the Bethnahrin Women Union (HNB).
