New evidence about Syrian regime’s use of chemical weapons
DARAMSUQ — Non-governmental organizations, including the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression, Syrian Archive, Open Society Justice Initiative, and Civil Rights Defenders announced in a joint statement that they had provided investigative authorities in Germany, France, and Sweden documents containing videos and interviews with witnesses, victims, and defected members of Syrian government about the regime’s use of chemical weapons.
According to the statement, the Syrian regime headed by Bashar al-Assad used sarin gas in the attacks on Khan Sheikhoun — which killed more than 100 people, including 32 children and 23 women — and Douma — which claimed dozens of lives.
The organizations indicated that, in an attempt to hold those who perpetrated the attacks accountable, they collected additional evidence related to the chemical attacks on Ghouta in 2013 and Khan Sheikhoun in 2017 to submit it to relevant authorities in the three countries where investigations are being conducted.
In their statement, the organizations emphasized that, “The failure of the international community to stand against the Syrian regime’s disregard for international law and act to prevent the heavy loss of life has increased the Syrian regime’s atrocities.
