LEBANON: President of Universal Syriac Union Party Ibrahim Mrad meets with delegation of National Liberal Party
AL-MATN, Lebanon — President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad met with head of the National Liberal Party Camille Dori Chamoun, a candidate for the Syriac Maronite seat in Baabda, at the USUP headquarters in Sad el-Bouchrieh, Lebanon.
Chamoun was accompanied by a party delegation that included Secretary of the Interior Camil Joseph Chamoun, Sovereign Front for Lebanon candidate for the Syriac Maronite seat in Matn District Rasheed Khalil Abu Joudeh (Lebanese Forces), and Secretary of Labor Antoine al-Asmar. A delegation from the Matn Commission of the National Liberal Party and members of the USUP Political Bureau and Central Council also attended the meeting.
Those present discussed the upcoming parliamentary elections and the necessity of holding them on time. They urged the Lebanese people to vote in order to save Lebanon from sectarianism and external influence.
The meeting also discussed future matters related to developing the struggle of the sovereign parties to defend Lebanon.
Mrad stated that the National Liberal Party is a party of martyrdom and has struggled consistently for Lebanon. The party deserves to reach the top-levels of government, said Mrad, elaborating that the party would act as a great force for Lebanon’s development.
Mrad considered USUP support for all Sovereign Front for Lebanon candidates as a continuation of resistance and hope.
He pointed to the importance of forming a sovereign parliamentary bloc that struggles for the salvation of Lebanon from pro-Iranian Hezbollah and to protect Lebanon’s pluralism. The launching of an internal and external front of resistance that sets a unified vision and strategic project outside the narrow partisan interests is a necessary step to safeguard Lebanese democracy.
Chamoun, in turn, thanked the USUP for its support and considered the upcoming parliamentary elections an important opportunity for the Lebanese people to lift themselves out of national crisis.
