LEBANON: Universal Syriac Union Party denounces sectarianism in election process
ZAHLE, Lebanon — The Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) branch in Zahle, Lebanon, issued a statement denouncing the circulation of a pro-Iranian video in the lead-up to national elections.
The video depicts people placing political parties’ flags along the highway in Zahle despite the municipality’s decision which prohibits placing any political party’s slogans in public places.
The USUP called on the Zahle Municipality, Governor of the Bekaa Valley, and the Lebanese Security Forces to immediately intervene and remove these flags so that the competition in the parliamentary elections does not devolve into sectarian violence.
