Syriac National Council of Syria supports document of understanding between Syriac Union Party and Assyrian Democratic Organization

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Syriac National Council of Syria (SSNC) issued a statement regarding the document of understanding signed by the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria and the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO).

Members of SUP and ADO jointly celebrated Akitu in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) this year and issued a joint document of understanding on 1 April, Akitu.

The SSNC declared its support for what was stated in the document, including the demands of recognizing the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) identity and language — the mother tongue of Syria — in the Syrian constitution.

The SSNC statement called on SUP and ADO to cooperate and ensure that Syriac is taught in all schools of Syria and to work together in the diplomatic field for the benefit of the Syrian national issue and the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.
