Sovereign Front for Lebanon holds event marking 47th anniversary of Lebanese Civil War
BEIRUT — On Wednesday, the Sovereign Front for Lebanon held an event marking the anniversary of the Lebanese Civil War, which erupted on 13 April 1975 after increasing tensions between the country’s many ethnic and religious groups. The conflict would last for 15 years.
The Front stated that the town of Ain al-Remmaneh which resisted against Palestinian factions and Syrian control is again today resisting external influence, this time in the form of Iranian attempts at to exert control through Hezbollah.
Hezbollah professes Lebanese identity but is politically, culturally, militarily, and financially affiliated to another country — Iran, says the Front.
The 13 April anniversary is unforgettable and three main lessons can be learned from it, said political representatives during the event. The first lesson is that when people decide to adhere and resist in their land, they cannot be overcome and that the blood of martyrs can never be forgotten.
The second lesson, according to the Front, is that the spread of weapons in the hands of militias violating Lebanon’s sovereignty will lead to the state’s collapse and endless wars.
The third lesson is that the current crises cannot be overcome except through a state adhering to the rule of law with robust institutions and a modern administration to ensure it. Only the Lebanese Army and the legitimate security forces can protect the people.
The Front called on the Lebanese people not to despair but rather to continue their resistance and make the upcoming parliamentary elections a moment of positive national change.
