MEP Nikolaj Villlumsen: Turkish attacks on North and East Syria must be met with sanctions
BRUSSELS — Danish Member of European Parliament Nikolaj Villumsen (The Unity List – The Red–Greens) told North Press Agency that the recurrent Turkish attacks on North and East Syria should not go unchallenged by the European Union and should be met with public denunciation and sanctions. The peoples of North and East Syria, who have fought terrorism on behalf of the world, should not be abandoned, said Villumsen.
Villumsen continued, commenting that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is using Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine to strike western allies in North and East Syria, referring to the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Tukey’s attacks are an attempt to undermine the pro-democratic forces that have stood against the Islamic State (ISIS), other extremist groups, and the Assad regime, he said. Adding that such attacks contradict international law and the truces brokered by the U.S. and Russia in October 2019.
The European Union announced that the 6th session of the “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” conference will be held in Brussels on 10 May.
