Syriac Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II honors sanitation workers in the Old City of Daramsuq
DARAMSUQ (DAMASCUS) – Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, honored the sanitation workers in the Old City of Daramsuq, ahead of International Workers’ Day, May 1. The Syriac hierarch invited the garbage collectors and street cleaners to a dinner on April 26, held in their honor at the Patriarchal headquarters in Bab Touma in Daramsuq (the patriarchal residence since 1957).
The dinner, which was attended by two episcopal confreres, was a sign of appreciation for the great service performed by the garbage collectors and cleaners in the Old City of Daramsuq. Mor Aphrem II addressed the sanitation workers with a word of gratitude for their efforts to keep the city clean and prevent the spread of diseases and epidemics. Despite the risks, they continued to do their job and made great sacrifices in the service of society.
