IRAN: New priest and reader ordained at Mor Gewargis Cathedral in Tehran

TEHRAN — In the presence of Archbishop of the Assyrian Church of the East for Iran Mor Narsai Benjamin, the ordination ceremony of Father Beniel Sargon and reader Tomas Youkhana were held in the Cathedral of Mor Gewargis the Martyr, Church of the Episcopal See, on Tuesday in the Iranian capital, Tehran..

According to the official website of the Assyrian Church of the East, the ordination was attended by Priest of Saint Mary Church in Urmia Deryaush Azizian, Associate Priest in Tehran Yobalt Aldo, priests of other Churches in Tehran, representatives of the Assyrian National Councils in Tehran and other cities, and a large crowd of believers.

During the ceremony, the ordained made a covenant of service and devotion to the Church and obedience to the Church shepherds.

One of the ordained, Father Beniel Sargon, was born in 1993 to Mr. Atour and Ms. Leeda. He is married and was ordained as a deacon in 2011. He studied Theology and Church rites for four years. Father Sargon also served with the Committees for Education of the Youth. He will serve the parish of Saint Thomas the Apostle in the Iranian city of Fardis.

Reader Tomas Youkhana was born in 2007 to parents Homer and Catherine.
