Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Rai meets head of National Liberal Party and delegation from Bishops’ Conference of France
BETH KERKE, Lebanon — On Tuesday, Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rai met with head of the National Liberal Party Camille Dory Chamoun at the Patriarchal Edifice in Beth Kerke (Bkerke), Lebanon.
During the meeting, the importance of unity among Christian peoples was emphasized and the current state of affairs in Lebanon discussed.
The attendees of the meeting also stressed the pivotal nature of the parliamentary elections in Lebanon and the impact they will have on the lives of the Lebanese people, for better or worse. All participants voiced support for a federalized Lebanon.
Patriarch al-Rai has repeatedly called for international intervention in the country to ensure that corruption is stamped out and political reforms enacted. He has also advocated for Lebanon to adopt a policy of “active neutrality” to extract the country from violent and destructive regional politics.
The Patriarch also received a delegation from the Bishops’ Conference of France. The meeting was a part of the program to emphasize the special identity of the Eastern Churches.
