IRAQ: Ramy Noori appointed mayor of Ankawa District by Erbil Provincial Council
ANKAWA, Iraq — The Erbil Provincial Council in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) unanimously voted to appoint Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian Ramy Noori mayor of Ankawa District.
The voting session was held on 12 May at the Council headquarters. Noori obtained 23 out of 24 votes.
The decision to transfer Ankawa from a suburb to a district came following a visit by KRI Prime Minister Masrour Barzani where he met with local officials alongside Minister of Interior Rebar Ahmed, Transport and Communications Minister Ano Abdoka, and Governor of Erbil Omed Khoshnaw.
As a district, the residents of the predominantly Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian Ankawa will have greater autonomy in governance.
