Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Mor Maurice Amsih calls on international community to stop Turkish attacks on North and East Syria

ZALIN, Syria — Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih attended the second day of the two-day sit-in organized by Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) institutions in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, to protest against Turkey’s repeated attacks on the region.

In a statement to SyriacPress, Archbishop Amsih called on the international leaders to end the suffering caused by Turkish encroachments on North and East Syria, especially the Syriac–Assyrian villages of the Khabur River Valley which are being attacked by Turkish heavy artillery almost daily.

The Archbishop prayed to God that peace and safety would prevail in the region.

He spoke about the displacement of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and attempts to uproot them from their historical land of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia). Archbishop Amsih also mentioned the Turkish attacks on northern Iraq. The Turkish military campaign is exacerbating the already difficult circumstances of the people of Nohadra (Duhok) and Nineveh Plains, particularly among the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people.

The Archbishop commended the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) institutions who organized the sit-in and prayed to God to bless them and their determination to remain in their ancestral homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mseopotamia).
