Book fair event held in Ankawa, Iraq

ANKAWA, Iraq — Last week, the General Directorate for Syriac Culture and Arts and the Syriac Culture Library held an open book fair with the participation of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian intellectuals, a number of local officials, members of parliament, and the general public .

Head of the Syriac Culture Library Faihaa Chamoun gave a welcome speech to guests, emphasizing the importance of developing reading and writing skills. Chamoun stressed the significant role books have played throughout history in conveying knowledge and ideas from civilization to civilization.

Cultural sessions then began on the sidelines of the exhibition, including a lecture by theater critic Sabah Hormuz al-Shani entitled “Reading Interpretation in Ahmed Khalaf’s Novels”. The session was facilitated by Professor Boutros Nabati and Mohamed Saber Abed.

Artist Riyad Osman performed during a session on music which included a collection of Syriac, Kurdish, and Arabic songs. Osman’s session was followed by an interactive session on Syrian poetry.
