12th session of Middle East Council of Churches begins in Egypt
WADI EL NATRUN, Egypt — The 12th session of the Middle East Council of Churches began this week at the main church of the Monastery of Anba Bishoy in Wadi El Natrun, Egypt.
Present were Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Ephrem Joseph III Younan and Coptic Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, as well as other Church leaders and representatives.
In his speech during the meeting, Patriarch Younan said that consecutive crises in the Middle East and around the world, particularly in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Ukraine, increase our sense of urgency for the presence of God in our midst.
The Patriarch explained that the slogan of the 12th session of the Council of Middle Eastern Churches calls for uniting together first by praying and then by working and serving, hoping that the assembled Churches will discuss what to do in the next phase, to be witnesses to Jesus Christ in this tortured East, and dedicated in providing service to man in need.
