Beth Nahrain Women’s Union holds meeting in Switzerland

TICINO, Switzerland — During the conference that was held by This week, the Beth Nahrain Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB) organized a conference, ‘Raising Women’s Profile and Combating Violations against Women’, in Ticino, Switzerland highlighting the achievements and developments of HNB, the history of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, and the experiences of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) woman throughout years of conflict.

Present at the conference were representatives from Ticino’s Integration Office, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the left political parties.

Hana Hobil, member of the HNB and European Syriac Union (ESU) Representative in Switzerland, , spoke about the role of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women in the development of civilization and society, adding that with the establishment of the Beth Nahrin Women’s Union has played a significant role in increasing the presence of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women in politics and leadership roles.

Michela Trisconi highlighted the development of community integration in the Swiss Cantons and the HNB’s efforts to develop women.

Lisa Boscolo spoke of the difficulties women face at home in Switzerland, saying that the country still has its issues with  gender inequality.

The conference concluded with a dinner featuring Syriac food prepared by the local community.
