SÖDERTALJE, Sweden — During a recent meeting, the Södertälje Parties Committee discussed new ideas about the placement of the Sayfo Genocide Memorial in Södertälje, Sweden.
Earlier, the committee proposed two ideas about the placement of the memorial. Members of the committee did not accept the proposals made by some artists and the placement was subsequently delayed.
According to the committee members, the proposal discussions are underway, including the proposal of placing the monument in Södertälje Municipality, which was previously rejected.
The committee reported that meetings will be held soon to receive more proposals. Mayor of the municipality stated that pressure was put on the municipality regarding the two recent proposals submitted by two artists.
The committee is to take a decision regarding the monument, after meeting with institutions of the peoples against whom the Sayfo Genocide was committed by the Ottoman Empire in 1915.
