European Syriac Union commemorates Martyr Matay Rabo on martyrdom anniversary of his martyrdom

BRUSSELS — On Wednesday, 18 May, the European Syriac Union (ESU) commemorated the martyrdom of founding member and former ESU President Matay Rabo Iskender Alptekin.

ESU Co-Chairs Fehmi Vergili and Alisya Işik recalled Comrade Matay Rabo, who was martyred on 18 May 2010 and became a national symbol.

Comrade Matay had given great effort through the work and visits he made around the world to spread the freedom struggle for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

In demanding the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, Comrade Matay worked hard in all forums.

“In addition to his respected and beloved personality, Comrade Matay was interested in music and presented many songs to the Syriac people,” the ESU stated.

“The ESU commemorates Comrade Matay Rabo Iskender Alptekin who will not be forgotten, and his memory will remain immortal in our hearts, because he gave his life for the freedom of the Syriac people,” read the ESU statement.
