Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih calls Syrian Democratic Forces spokesman Aram Hanna to learn about the situation of Khabur villages in North and East Syria

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In a phone conversation with Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih, spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Aram Hanna informed His Holiness about the overall situation in the villages of the Syriac (Aramean-Assyrian-Chaldean) people in Khabur Valley, amid the ongoing Turkish attacks.

Hanna explained the current situation in the Khabur Valley, especially on lines of contact with the Turkish-backed factions, and the continuous conflict resulted from the Turkish military escalations and violations against civilians, infrastructure and service institutions.

Hanna added that the Turkish bombing recently focused on the western and northern countryside of Tal Tamer.

“The Mor Sawa (Mor Osyo, Al-Hakim) Church in the Suraye village of Tal Tawil was subjected to a barbaric Turkish bombardment,” he continued.

Archbishop Mor Maurice, in turn, denounced the Turkish threats and violations in the region, pointing out to their negative impact on the Syriac (Aramean-Assyrian-Chaldean) in Khabour Valley.

Archbishop Mor Maurice noted that he will convey this painful situation of the Syriac people to the concerned authorities during his current tour in Europe.

His Holiness also stressed the need of churches neutrality from all military conflicts.

Hanna affirmed the SDF commitment to the cease-fire agreement and their readiness to confront any potential Turkish aggression on the region.
