HAMBURG, Germany — The Syriac Orthodox Mart Mari and Mart Shmuni Church in Hamburg, Germany, held an event to remember the martyrs of the Sayfo Genocide with prayers and hymns.
A large crowd of believers attended the event, which was held in front of the Sayfo memorial in the churchyard. The event was presided over by church priest Father Moshe Dogan. Members of the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB) help organize the event.
During the event, several speeches were delivered about the Sayfo Genocide, and prayers and poems in Syriac were recited for the martyrs. Father Dogan also performed a prayer for the souls of the martyrs.
It was reported that the believers in this church annually celebrate the Sayfo Remembrance. However, the COVID-19 pandemic suspended this event for two years.
