Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Raï: We will spare no effort to save Lebanon

DIMANE, Lebanon — Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Béchara Boutros al-Raï called for the formation of a new government in Lebanon, stressing the need for the government to be inclusive and inspire confidence through its nationalism and seriousness in solving Lebanon’s lingering issues.

During his sermon from Dimane, Lebanon, Patriarch al-Raï called for electing a new president of the republic at least a month or two months before the end of the current president’s term.

“We hope that the new president will pull Lebanon from the bottom and work on reforming the country’s affairs,” he stated, indicating that it is difficult for the Lebanese people that all countries of the region seek solutions, while their country keeps descending into crises.

“We will not succumb to the status quo, and we will not spare any effort to save Lebanon, Patriarhc al-Raï added. “We will not let Lebanon be lost, regardless of the initiatives that we will have to take.”

The Patriarch wondered why the ruling class agreed to impose taxes on the people and did not bear the responsibility to save the country themselves.

“The Christian who deals with political affairs are called to service in a spirit of impartiality and sincere dedication to serving the common good,” he concluded.
