Germany warns Turkey over plans to invade northern Syria
BERLIN — The German government has warned Turkey against launching a new military operation in northern Syria, reported Deutsche Welle.
A German Foreign Ministry spokesman stated the following on Wednesday:
“In our view, such an act would not only aggravate the already difficult situation for the people there, but also lead to the Islamic State [ISIS] restoration of its power.”
He added that, despite Turkey’s legitimate security interests, it has a responsibility to avoid a potential security vacuum.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed these plans during the tripartite summit he attended in Tehran with his Iranian and Russian counterparts Ibrahim Raisi and Vladimir Putin.
