Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Rai responds to treason accusations made by pro-Iran political parties

DIMANE, Lebanon — Pro-Iranian parties in Lebanon have accused the Syriac Maronite Church of collaborating with Israel following the arrest of Archbishop Moussa el-Hage at the border.

On Sunday, political figures and delegations flocked to Dimane, Lebanon, in solidarity with Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rai.

During his sermon, Patriarch al-Rai stated that Christians in Lebanon and the Middle East are entrusted with dignity and sanctity of human life and Lebanon will not grow nor unite with the current perverted approach.

“The time has come to change this situation, which is full of grudges, maliciousness, and faulty behavior,” he added.

The Patriarch declared that it is unacceptable for an archbishop to be arrested and investigated without referring to the Patriarchate.

“We reject such police behaviors that have political dimensions,” he continued.

“Look for agents elsewhere, for you know who they are and where they are,” Patriarch al-Rai responded to the accusations. “The Syriac Maronite Patriarchate will continue its path of active, positive neutrality.”

The Patriarch pointed out that they will continue the calls to form a new government as soon as possible and elect a new Lebanese president within the constitutional deadline because Lebanon deserves a new government and a new president.

He also demanded that the documents, goods, and aid confiscated from Archbishop Moussa el-Hage, including his passport, cell phone, and the financial and medical aid destined for Lebanon’s neediest, be immediately returned.
