Two Patriarchal Delegates appointed by Syriac Orthodox Church to Holeb Archdiocese and Jerusalem, Jordan, and Holy Lands Archdiocese

DARAMSUQ — After the Patriarchal Vicar of Jerusalem, Jordan, and the Holy Lands, Thrice Blessed Archbishop Mor Gabriel Dahho, passed away, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church Mor Ignatius Aphrem II appointed the Patriarchal Delegate for Youth Affairs and Christian Education, Archbishop Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub, as Patriarchal Delegate for the Patriarchal Vicariate of Jerusalem, Jordan, and the Holy Land until an Archbishop is elected and appointed to the Archdiocese. Accordingly, the Archbishop is granted all the administrative, spiritual, and pastoral powers assigned to him by the constitution of the church.

Additionally, after the vacancy of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Holeb (Aleppo) and its Environs following the disappearance of Archbishop Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim roughly ten years ago, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch asked His Eminence Mor Boutros Kassis to continue to administer the affairs of the Archdiocese of Holeb and its Environs as a Patriarchal Delegate until an Archbishop is elected and appointed to the Archdiocese.

More information on the case of Archbishop Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim’s likely abduction can be found in Alfred Hackensberger’s article, “The bishop that Syria still goes without”.
