European Syriac Union organizes demonstration to condemn Turkish attacks
GIESSEN, Germany — The European Syriac Union (ESU) organized a demonstration in Giessen, Germany, to condemn the Turkish attacks against the people of North and East Syria.
The demonstration began with a minute of silence for the souls of martyrs, followed by a speech by ESU representative Samuel Touq who denounced the repeated attacks taking place in the regions of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) in North and East Syria.
He added that the violations committed by the Turkish government have not stopped and have specifically targeted the villages of the predominately Syriac–Assyrian villages of the Khabur River Valley.
Touq demanded the cessation of the Turkish attacks which seek to undermine ethnic and religious coexistence in North and East Syria.
A group of Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans), alongside a group of Kurds, participated in the demonstration. Representative of the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB) Turkan Ojad was also present in the demonstration. She denounced the ongoing Turkish violations and stressed the HNB support for Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women.
Kurdish NAV-DEM representative Adnan Ozil spoke about the resistance of peoples in North and East Syria and the heroism of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). He also condemned the Turkish encroachments that are taking place against the peoples of the region.
At the end of the demonstration, event organizer Ibrahim Eid thanked the participants and stressed the need to support the homeland in times of crises.
