Syriac athlete wins bronze medal in Asian Taekwondo Championships

CHUNCHEON, South Korea — In June, Syriac athlete Alissar Esber Elias won the bronze medal in the Asian Women’s Taekwondo Championship held in South Korea, becoming the first Syrian to win an Asian medal in the women’s category.

Elias lives in Latakia and studies Arabic Literature at Tishreen University. She is also a member of the Syrian National Taekwondo Team.

In 2021, she won the bronze medal in the 73+ kg weight class at the Beirut International Open Championship which saw the participation of 270 players from Asia, Europe, and Africa.
