USUP President Mrad demands Syrian regime reveal fate of Syriac leader Said Malke
BEIRUT — On the 9th anniversary of disappearance of Syriac leader Said Malke, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad stated via Facebook that:
“Nine years since the disappearance of Syriac Comrade Said Malke from his people, family, and city, which he loved to the extreme, his comrades continue suffering, not knowing his fate. In previous years, the Syrian regime did not reveal anything about Malke’s fate, except for some narrations that lack evidence and credibility.
Despite all the attempts and interventions made by countries, international humanitarian organizations, and high ecclesiastical officials, we were not able to obtain the truth about Comrade Malke’s disappearance.”
Mrad stated that the arbitrary arrest of Comrade Malke took place due to his demand for freedom and rights for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and the Syrian people as a whole. He emphasized the insistence of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community on revealing the fate of Comrade Malke and securing his return, whether he is alive or a martyr.
Mrad renewed his call to the Patriarchs of Syria to again pressure Syrian authorities to release Comrade Malke. He also called on the United Nations to inspect the prisons and mass graves to end the suffering of tens of thousands of Syrians and Lebanese.
He revealed several new international and Middle Eastern steps that will be adopted to reveal the fate of comrade Malke.
Malke’s absence only increased his comrades’ resolve in the struggle for freedom and rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and all peoples striving for freedom and democracy, he concluded.
