Increased abuse cases against Syrian children in Lebanon

GHAZZAH, Lebanon — A circulated video showed that a number of Syrian children in an agricultural field in Ghazzah town in Lebanon were subjected to abuse and beatings by a man nicknamed, Al-Shawish.

After the circulated video, Al-Shawish was arrested by the Lebanese Security Forces.

Earlier, a report issued by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency (UNICEF), warned that children in Lebanon face the risk of physical, psychological or sexual violence, at a time when families are struggling to cope with the worsening crisis in Lebanon.

The report indicated that the number of child abuse cases increased by nearly half between October, 2020 and October, 2021. The numbers of assault cases rose from 3913 to 5621 cases.
