NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Aram Hanna confirmed that their forces will continue in their duty to defend North and East Syria and its people from Turkish attacks. Any Turkish attacks will be responded to immediately and harshly, he said.
As Turkish attacks on North and East Syria continue to escalate, Hanna stated to Hawar News Agency that the overall deliberations on the Syrian issue indicate that it has become an arena of international conflict where regional powers fight for their own interests.
The situation “guarantees certain interests that the occupying state and other regional parties benefit and the international powers turn a blind eye to allow their regional allies to achieve their desired goals”.
The occupation has been beating the drums of war since the first years of the revolution, said Hanna, adding that from the first moment Turkey has sought to undermine the inter-ethnic and inter-faith solidarity of the components of North and East Syria. The people of North and East Syria have laid the foundations of coexistence and brotherhood of peoples in the region which poses a threat to the Turkish government’s policy of ethnic and religious supremacy, he said.
Hanna stated that the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people should be aware that what is happening now is no different from what they have been exposed to historically. Those responsible for the massacres of the Sayfo Genocid of 1915 are the same as those who threaten the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people again, he continued.
Hanna stressed that the SDF are ready for any emergency and their special units took upon themselves the responsibility to respond to the enemy’s violations immediately through direct strikes which inflicted personnel and equipment losses on the occupation army.
