Syriac Catholic Patriarch Younan inspects restoration of St. George Cathedral in Lebanon

BEIRUT — Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Yawsef III Younan made his final inspection tour of the St. George Cathedral in Bachoura, Beirut.

The cathedral was completely destroyed in 1976 during the Lebanese Civil War. Restoration work was organized under the direction of the Patriarch, who asked to preserve the cathedral’s historical Syriac style during the restoration.

Patriarch Younan gave directions to put the final touches on the restoration and praised the work of the supervising engineer and workers. The Patriarch also prayed for them and their families.

The consecration of the cathedral will be celebrated by Patriarch Younan on 29 October, the Sunday Eve of the Sanctification de l’Église.
