Eleventh Assembly of the Council of Churches continues in Karlsruhe, Germany
KARLSRUHE, Germany — With the aim of unifying the Christian vision around the world and converging the views of the various churches, the work of the Eleventh Assembly of the World Council of Churches continues in Karlsruhe, Germany. The Assembly began on 31 August and will continue until 8 September. The slogan for this year’s Assembly is “Christ’s Love Moves the World to Reconciliation and Unity”.
Amidst a number of global and regional health, social, economic, and security crises, the Assembly invited all Churches to work together and with other faiths and people of good will to achieve peace.
The work of the Assembly was preceded by a series of four introductory meetings. Hundreds of people from around the world participated to exchange ideas, discuss challenges and aspirations in four main themes: 1) indigenous peoples, 2) youth, 3) people with the most ecumenical needs, and 4) relations between the sexes.
The work of the Assembly will end with recommendations for joint action and practical steps to reach a more just, secure, and peaceful world.
