IRAQ: Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties discuss quota seats with Kurdistan Left Parties

ERBIL — A delegation of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties, including Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa), Abnaa al-Nahrain, Assyrian National Party, and Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA), met with the Kurdistan Left Parties to discuss the election law for the parliament of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

The Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian delegation communicated their position on the current laws governing quota seats and their desire for reform. The delegation laid out their recommendations, including creating a record of quota seat voters, ensuring proper oversight of polling centers and ballot boxes, and restricting voting for quota seat candidates to members of the represented group.

The Kurdish Left Parties, including the Kurdistan Communist Party, the Kurdistan Toilers Party, and the Kurdistan Democratic People’s Movement in Erbil, expressed their support for the demands of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian parties.

The two sides also stressed the importance of communication between them in the pursuit of the public interest.
