BEIRUT — Head of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad called on the municipalities of Lebanon to reactivate the role of popular bodies to assist the municipalities in guarding and patrolling remote neighborhoods and villages due to the inability of the security services to conduct patrols and prosecute criminals and thieves.
Mrad added that it is necessary to activate these committees because the security services cannot conduct patrols and prosecute criminals due to the dire economic situation, which has almost paralyzed the internal security forces.
He stated that there has been a marked increase of thefts and attacks on citizens by armed organized gangs roaming the streets and villages on motorbikes.
In other news, Mrad stated that, “a decision issued by the Lebanese General Security will lift the entry visa for Iraqis entering Lebanon and this is a very good step.”
“We hope the Iraqi government will take the same step towards the Lebanese,” he added. However, Mrad stated that the government must ensure the lifting of the visa requirement should not facilitate the entry of members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) or the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). He called on members of the Sovereign Front for Lebanon to ask the government and those concerned about this matter.
