Co-Chair of Syriac Union Party Sanharib Barsoum warns of repercussions of security cooperation between Turkey and Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Commenting on the political and military developments in Syria, especially North and East Syria, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Sanharib Barsoum stated that, “Continuing its project to control Syrian lands, Turkey will pressure against the [Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA)] in order to strike it and undermine the will of the peoples of the region.”
“This is Turkey’s real goal, not as it claims to protect its national security,” Barsoum added, indicating that the DAA or the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) do not pose a security threat to Turkey. On the contrary, he continued, Turkey was using its armed factions and groups of the Islamic State (ISIS) against the SDF and the DAA.
Barsoum touched on the rapprochement between Turkey and Syria, saying that Turkey will try by all means to strike the DAA project and this is the driving force behind its move towards concluding an agreement with the Syrian regime.
He stressed that this relationship with the Syrian regime will be at the expense of the blood of thousands of Syrians and the Syrian opposition, which has tied itself to Turkey, and is now being abandoned in exchange for achieving the interests of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Barsoum called on the Syrian regime to pay attention to the interests of the Syrian people and seek a political solution, instead of making concessions to regional powers in the pursuit of its own interests.
