Conference in Germany marks 10th anniversary of establishment of self-rule in North and East Syria
FRANKFURT — On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the self-rule in North and East Syria, Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization Medico International held a conference on 10–11 September in the German city of Frankfurt. Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) in Gozarto (Jazira) Region Nazira Goreya was in attendance.
Goreya told Suroyo TV that the conference took place with the participation of Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Elham Ahmed, and Co-Chair of the DAA Foreign Relations Commission Abdul Karim Omar, and about 100 political figures, journalists, academics, human rights activists, and members of European Parliament.
During the two days of the conference, key points were delivered and discussed regarding the DAA and its activities and actions over the past ten years, in addition to the political solution in Syria and ways to achieve it, said Goreya.
The security situation and the threats facing the DAA, especially the Turkish occupation, its renewed threats of invasion, and its repeated attacks with heavy weapons on the region and its peoples, and how to stop those attacks and stop military support from Turkey were discussed.
Goreya added that ways to lift sanctions on the DAA Regions and their economic development were discussed.
She also gave a speech in which she touched on the situation of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people before and during the rule of the Ba’ath Party in Syria. Goreya also covered their situation during the formation of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) and participation in its establishment, in addition to the DAA’s goals and aspirations for a democratic Syria based on equal rights.
