Syriac Military Council Spokesperson Matay Hanna: We will not be complacent in defending the Syriac people or their land
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — As Turkey and its Syrian National Army (SNA) proxies continue their attacks across North and East Syria, including the Syriac–Assyrian villages and towns of the Khabur River Valley, Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS) Spokesperson Matay Hanna said that the MFS, alongside their partners in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), will not hesitate to respond to the source of the attacks in accordance with the principles of legitimate self-defense.
Hanna’s statements came in an interview with Rojava FM, where he explained that the Turkish state and its proxies have recently expanded the scope of their targeting, as they included several areas, including the areas of Abu Rasyan (Zarkan) and Tel Tamer, using drones and heavy weapons.
He stated that MFS fighters thwarted several operations through which the SNA tried to infiltrate Abu Rasayn and Tel Tamr with the aim of theft and looting.
The recent bombing and attacks caused great damage to civilian property and public infrastructure, including the power station in Timar (Umm al-Keif) that services the Tel Tamr area.
Hanna stressed that the continuation of Turkish violations, in parallel with the silence of the guarantor forces of the ceasefire — Russia and the US — shows the extent of the difficulties facing the forces of North and East Syria, which have made, and are still making, the most precious sacrifices in order to protect the homeland from external aggression, pursue the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS), and secure prisons and camps in the region.
The MFS will continue to fight for the security and rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and the other peoples of North and East Syria, said Hanna. He concluded by stating that the MFS will work towards gaining international recognition of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) and ensure the coexistence of all components of the region as free and dignified people within their homeland Syria.
