Bethnahrin National Council commemorates Syriac–Chaldean–Assyrian–Aramean martyrs
BETH NAHRIN — On the 23rd annual commemoration of the martyrs of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), the MUB issued a public statement.
The statement read:
“The history of the MUB struggle was written with the blood of dozens of martyrs, who showed the way of salvation to the Syriac–Chaldean–Assyrian–Aramean people. The beacon of the Syriac martyrs was lit on 10 October 1999 with the martyrdom of comrade Abgar, George Francis, in the mountains of Zagros. His martyrdom illuminated the darkness that prevailed in our homeland.”
The statement added that dozens of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) martyrs achieved victory and transferred it from hand to hand. They spread hope to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people to start the struggle in the pursuit of national unity and a dignified life. The martyrs rejected servitude and surrender and confronted the ruling forces that divided the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) homeland and people, it continued.
The statement stressed that the martyrs, who represent the heart of the MUB’s struggle and the common values of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, are remembered everywhere with pride because they fought and defended the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people against colonial powers and extremists like the barbaric Islamic State (ISIS).
“The martyrs, disregarding differences in sect or name, responded with all might to our enemies’ attacks,” read the statement. “To the last breath, they showed their will until freedom.”
The martyrs of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people adhered to the ideal of coexistence among peoples, embodying the values of a democratic and free society, said the statement.
The statement concluded:
“For the existence of our people and achieving their demands of autonomous governance, the outputs of the Fifth MUB Conference must be applied. This stage is the stage of death with might for defending our existence, and sacrifice to achieve goals of our martyrs. We will fulfill the promise of freedom for our nation, to our martyrs of struggle. We will defend our people against enemies and attacks, and we will remember our martyrs everywhere.”
