European Syriac Union holds memorial event for martyrs of Bethnahrin National Council in Brussels

BRUSSELS — The European Syriac Union (ESU) and the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) held the annual remembrance of MUB martyrs at the ESU headquarters in Brussels.

The remembrance began with a minute of silence for the souls of the martyrs.

Event presenter Rachel Vergili then welcomed the attendees and ESU Co-Chair Fehmi Vergili delivered a speech about the values ​​and meanings of martyrdom.

“It is the duty of all of us to preserve the martyrs’ sacrifice, especially in this sensitive stage,” Vergili stated. “We must not forget the Syriac (Aramean–Chaldean–Assyrian) people across the world.”

During the remembrance, the Syriac poet Malke Habsono presented a group of poems about martyrdom and the national struggle of the Syriac (Aramean–Chaldean–Assyrian) people.

Poet Syriac Issa Hanna also recited a poem in which he valued the sacrifices of the martyrs and the MUB.
