Funeral services for Enkido Özmen, Syriac man murder in Södertälje, Sweden, to be laid to rest on Friday
SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden — The funeral of the late Enkido (Enki) Özmen (40), murdered last week in Södertälje, Sweden, will take place on Friday at St. Jacob of Nsibin Church in Södertälje.
The family of the deceased reported that thousands of Syriac people flocked to offer their condolences during the two-day mourning council. The bereaved family thanked the religious, cultural, and political parties and institutions of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people that have shown solidarity with them during this difficult time.
Enkido’s murder sparked widespread criticism of Swedish authorities among the Syriacs of Södertälje. Meanwhile, the people of the village of Habsas, from which the father of the slain man hails, decided to hold a Divine Mass on Sunday for the comfort of Enkido’s soul. Lord Daniel, head of the monastery of the village of Saleh, will preside over the service.
The funeral service will be held in Church of St. Jacob of Nsibin in Södertälje on Friday at 11:00 a.m. His body will be buried in the modern Södertälje cemetery.
