Commemoration of Bethnahrin National Council martyrs in Delbrück, Germany

DELBRÜCK, Germany — Under the patronage of Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Shimon Baghendi, the Mar Melki Church Council in Delbrück, Germany, and representatives of the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB) held the annual memorial for the martyrs of the national struggle.

During the commemoration, speeches were delivered about the meaning of martyrdom, poems, and musical performances for the audience in the church hall.

A minute of silence was observed and a prayer held for the souls of the martyrs. Hawro (Comrade) Kebro Touma acted as the event presenter. Representatives of the various institutions of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people attended the evening.

The speeches delivered during the event stressed the importance of national unity , especially in the current stage which has seen difficult circumstances for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in their homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).

The official statement of the MUB was read aloud and presentations were given about the martyrs and their sacrifice for the sake of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian-Chaldean) people.

Poet and Professor Habib Kanout recited a poem about martyrdom and artists George Issa, George Safar, and musicians Gabriel and Aziz, performed in honor of the martyrs.
