BETH NAHRIN — In comments to SyriacPress, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party in Syria (SUP) Sanharib Barsom stated that the Christians of the East Congress in Lebanon aimed to discuss challenges, difficulties and demands of Middle East Christians.
Barsom declared that the Congress discussed a paper containing the demands of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people and their vision for the future of Syria, as well as the most important points that they consider essential for the continuation and survival of the Syriac and Christian people in their historical land of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).
“The Congress was of great importance because it gathered many political parties, personalities and institutions from several countries in the Middle East, Europe and the U.S.,” he added, stressing the importance of following up the results of the Congress and conveying them to the concerned countries, whether in the Middle East or across world.
He touched on the need to include all the other parties that were not able to participate in order to unify positions and visions, due to the critical stage that we experience.
“It is important for all Christian, including the Syriac, forces to unite to obtain their full national, religious, cultural rights,” Barsom concluded.
