NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Armenian Social Council of North and East Syria condemned the soft position of the US on Turkey’s attacks on North and East Syria, saying the lack of action by the US is akin to complicity. It called on the international community to put an end to Turkey’s violations.
The Council denounced Turkey’s aggressive attacks and voiced its support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in defending the region.
The latest Turkish aggression is nothing but an extension of the Ottomanist mentality of the current government which seeks to expand its borders to include all of northern Syria, said the Council. Turkey seeks to destroy the infrastructure of the region and change the demography, similar to the genocidal campaigns committed by its Ottoman ancestors against the Armenian people.
In its statement, the Armenian Social Council called on the international community and the United Nations Human Rights Council to stop these systematic crimes against humanity which have displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians.
“We condemn in the strongest terms all the war crimes committed by the Turkish occupation state in front of the eyes of the world. The world is silent and we demand the immediate intervention of the United Nations, human rights organizations, and international and national courts specialized in the prosecution of war criminals to carry out their moral responsibility to stop these barbaric attacks and try those responsible for violating humanitarian law.”
