Syrian regime consolidates relations with Iran through secret credit line and granting of citizenship to Iranian nationals
DARAMSUQ — As the situation of the Syrian regime looks increasingly secure, it continues to consolidate its relations with the Iranian regime. Syria TV obtained a leaked document from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian regime which revealed that a secret line of credit to purchase Iranian oil was set up in 2013 to cover the needs of the palace of head of the Syrian regime Bashar al-Assad, separate from the needs of the country.
Syria TV reported that there are several operational lines of credit, the first established in 2013 of $1 billion. A second line was set up in 2014 of $3 billion and a third in 2015 of $1 billion.
The document outlined a meeting that took place between the Syrian regime’s ambassador to Iran Shafiq Dayoub with Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force Ismail Qaani in May 2021 where they discussed increasing the amount of Iranian oil shipped to Syria and add wheat as a commodity covered by the line of credit.
In related news, Syrian opposition media sources reported that the Syrian regime is preparing to grant Syrian nationality to families of Iranian militias that are residing in Daramsuq (Damascus). Some government departments in the western countryside of Daramsuq made preparations to grant identity cards and identification papers to families of Iranian militia members affiliated with the IRGC and Lebanese Hezbollah.
The sources reported that the Syrian regime is working to employ some of these families in its government departments in the countryside of Daramsuq after completing the issuance of the necessary papers.
