Beth Nahrin Patriotic Union in Iraq recalls Iraq’s victory over ISIS
ANKAWA, Iraq — The Beth Nahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) issued a statement on the 5th anniversary of Iraq’s victory over the Islamic State (ISIS) warning of the dangers posed by extremism that still exist in the country.
In the statement, the HBA said that in 2014, with the participation of the Bet-Nahrain Democratic Party, they formed the Nineveh Plains Forces (NPF) to defend Nineveh Plains and other Iraqi territory.
Lessons must be drawn from the rise of ISIS, said the HBA. Although ISIS has been defeated, its extremist ideology still poses an extreme danger, read the statement.
The statement recalled the Iraqi martyrs and the blood spilt by Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian martyrs, including NPF fighter Fawaz Abdul al-Salam Saeed.
The HBA called on the Iraqi government and the United Nations to ensure justice for displaced people by compensating them financially and providing a secure return to their homes. The demographic change endemic to Iraq, especially in Nineveh Plains, must be ended, declared the HBA.
